Kang’ethe Mungai Film Producer / Director / script writer Professional Photographer at Kikwetu Productions .
Rahab: What do you like most about your job as a producer / director
Kang’ethe: I love the whole process of bringing people together with different talents, sharing a vision and most of all seeing it come to life and people appreciating it. For me that is priceless.
Rahab: What do you consider your artistic process when it comes to making a film?
Kang’ethe: It depends. If the script is mine, I use a simple process of what I refer to as 4 stage model, where I’ll come up with an idea, evaluate it to see if it can be developed into a film and if it makes business sense as well. From there, we go to pre-production, where we do all the planning. If this stage is done well, the next step of production is made a bit easier. Then finally we move to post, where the other hard work begins.
Rahab: Why did you start making films?
Kang’ethe: I’ve always wanted to tell our own African stories, from our own perspective and in the process, hope to educate as well as entertain.
Rahab: What are you currently watching?
Kang’ethe: I’m currently watching Rueben Odanga’s show on Netflix ‘Mofaya‘ . It’s amazing. I also love watching South African movies and TV series. Just finished watching ‘Adulting’ on Showmax.
Rahab: Any advice to those starting out in the film industry ?
Kang’ethe: Be patient, consistent and disciplined, and you must always be willing to take a risk. Film business is risky business. I have a saying ‘A ship in harbor is safe but that’s not where ships are made for.
