Africa’s Realness Institute, Netflix name 12 participants for 2023 episodic, development schemes

African development organisation the Realness Institute has selected 12 participants for its 2023 Episodic Lab and Development Executive Traineeship (DET), in partnership with Netflix.

The two cohorts each comprise six participants from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

The Episodic Lab participants include Amanda Gicharu and Juma Adero (Kenya), Emil Garuba (Nigeria), Gabe Gabriel, Jason Staggie and Vanishia Kisten (South Africa).

They will work to refine their skills as episodic screenwriters and develop their story ideas, and will have the opportunity to pitch their stories to Netflix content executives at the end of the program. Continue Reading

KOSINIMA SHORT FILM GRANT

KOSINIMA Short Film Grant is a grant fund for Black femme filmmakers in Africa and the African diaspora.

The KOSINIMA Short Film Grant funds  $2,500 USD for up to 4 filmmakers in Africa or the African diaspora (including Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America) per calendar year. The grant can be used for production (i.e. hiring of crew, securing locations, paying talent) and/or post-production of films only (no development or pre-production expenses) that meet the outlined criteria. DEADLINE: May 15th 2023

Submission is now open for the 10th edition of the Cairo Film Connection (CFC), the co-production market of the Cairo International Film Festival’s (CIFF) 45th edition.

The CFC submission window will be open for eligible film makers from Sunday 7 May to Friday 7 August, through the festival’s official website www.ciff.org.eg. DEADLINE: August 7th 2023
