Firul Maithya

Film Producer / Professional Photographer

Meet Firul Maithya, he is a Freelancer Line Producer and 1st AD . Firul Maithya is known for TeraStorm (2022), Coachez (2020) and Joy’s Garden (2021).

Rahab: What do you like most about your job as a producer / director

Firul: As a line producer/ director. The ability to read a script and visualize the film as written. And the ways to bring this vision to fruition. The ability to foresee challenges and think of possible solutions on how to get a scene done. I guess every director/ producer does this but I credit my process from a short stint I had at Kenya Grip and Sparks lighting where I got to see how critical Grips and Sparks bring to a film.  I have been working as line producer & a 1st AD on short films. Last year I got to do Art props photography on an international tv show. Currently doing the same plus BTS for feature film.

Rahab: What do you consider your artistic process when it comes to making a film

Firul: My process is quite simple, I read the script as non-filmmaker would. If it pleases me, I might re-read it again immediately (often I would read it the following day or hours later) thinking of what it would take to make it. Then often I would have had some conversations with the producer on budget and timelines. With these two in mind, I will see whether or not they work.

Rahab: Why did you start making films?

Firul: The long and short of it- is to tell stories and hope that it entertains and shares a nugget or two I hold true.

Rahab: What are you currently watching?

Firul: A lot of YouTube shows nowadays. Travel, automotive, real estate and channels of guys who do van life and adventure. There is a show on Netflix that I keep postponing called the Diplomat that I need to watch.

Rahab: Any advice to those starting out in the film industry?

Firul:  Have an idea of where you want to end up, research on how to get there, be open and flexible to working in other departments, be enthusiastic about whatever role you get, always prepare well for whatever it is you get, give yourself time and when you start making it be kind and gracious to those starting and beneath you. Mentor others.
